My eyes lazily take in the dull scene before me. I’m in my bedroom, surveying the contents on two tables. The items on each table are nice enough, some useful, a few decorative. They just looked listless, the way I’ve been feeling. Am I projecting?

Waiting for some sort of inspiration to strike, I slowly walk to the tables and remove a pile of books, replacing them with an over-the-top 1950’s glass murano ash tray in an appealing teal green or is it blue? No matter, the sun comes through the large window, bringing the ash tray to life with some sparkle that was missing before. I’m satisfied. That seems to be all the inspiration for the day.

Then my eye lands on a small bouquet of sweet peas purchased yesterday at the Farmers Market. My daughter hesitated to buy them for me because I had once told her they don’t last long. Yesterday I suggested she must buy them if only for the few days of pleasure they bring once cut. That’s ok right now. Corona virus influence. Gather rosebuds while ye may. I place the small bouquet of sweet peas on the table as well. Suddenly the energy and beauty of spring comes alive in my bedroom. I’m pleased.

I am genuinely enjoying some of the time I have these days to set myself free of appointments and just roam online. I am struck by the creative energy that some people have captured and are sharing on social media. Disclosure: Both videos I share here are made by pros. It shows. Double Disclosure: I am envious!

Accepting my inability to produce anything memorable at the moment, I decided it would be ok to share with you the discoveries I’ve made that have come from those more fortunate (more talented? more creative?).They’ve brightened up the days.I hope they brighten yours too. This it seems to me is the wonder of our humanity. Making lemonade out of lemons.

Following are two glasses of delicious lemonade…………………A great tonic.

In an attempt to slow life's quickening pace, I'm writing to share my personal perspective on the aging process, its dilemmas, the humorous self-deception, the insights and the adventure of it all. I spent the bulk of my time in beautiful Santa Barbara, CA, but manage to get to NYC a few times times a year. I've been a dancer/dance teacher and dance supporter almost all my life. For the past20years, I help create and produce a month-long creative residency in Santa Barbara for contemporary American choreographers and their dancers. It's been incredibly gratifying. This year, I decided it's time to retire! Big change. I also now spend several weeks a year in Kyoto Japan, residing for several weeks in the spring and the fall. I've been magnetically attracted to Japan for many years. Now I live out a dream to live there part-time.
